Bible Question:
Will everyone who confesses that Jesus is Lord at His coming be saved?
Bible Answer:
In Philippians 2:9-11 God has predicted that at some future date everyone in existence will bow and declare that Jesus Christ is Lord.
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil 2:9-11 (NAS95S)
This homage to Jesus was predicted by the prophet Isaiah who declared that at some future date “every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance” (Isa. 45:23). This will not occur until Jesus’ second coming (2 Thess. 1:10). Revelation 19:16 states that Jesus will come to the final great battle of Armageddon with His name written on His thigh.
And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” Rev 19:16 (NAS95S)
Those who are in heaven include the angels (Rev. 4:8-11) and those saints who died and are living in heaven with God (Rev. 5:8-14).They will declare that Jesus is Lord. Those who are on the earth will include those who are redeemed by Jesus’ blood and those who rejected Jesus Christ (2 Thess. 1:8-10). Those who are “under the earth” is a reference to all of the fallen angels or those who are in prison and the dead who rejected Jesus in this life (Rev. 20:11-13).
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Rev 20:11-15 (NAS95S)
The message is that those whose names are not written in the book of life will go to the Lake of Fire – a place of eternal suffering. Some teach that those who reject Jesus will spend eternity in hell. However, it is more accurate to say they will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire since all who are in hell, or in Hades, will go to the Lake of Fire. Note that Rev. 20:14 says that death and Hades will be thrown into the lake of fire.
Conclusion:
In summary, everyone who has existed will declare or admit that Jesus is Lord. The declaration that Jesus is Lord does not mean that they are saved to spend eternity with God in heaven. The truth is that Jesus is Lord. One day everyone will have to admit that He is Lord even over those who rejected Him in this life and will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire. Praise the Lord our God.
