Bible Question:

I have been trying to find God since I was 17. Now I am 46. But it still seems that it does not work. I get the “message” that He exists but nothing happens; though some time ago I was at a funeral, and I felt as if I was exalted when they let the coffin into the ground. It seems that He is with me, otherwise it would NEVER have been possible to feel the intensity of happiness that I felt when that person was buried. He was a Christian. So, I am wondering why it never works for me. I do believe in God and His Son, but I apparently do things wrong, or am not a real believer, which I doubt. Maybe you could give some advice?

Bible Answer:

I believe that God is chasing after you. That is what you are experiencing. I do not believe that you submitted your question by chance. It is easy to find God. Jesus Christ is God. If you believe that Jesus Christ is God and that He died for your sins then you have already started on your journey with God.

. . . Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; (NASB) 1 Cor. 15:3-7

Finding God Starts With Believing

If you believe the above statements, then you have found God. You must start here. You must come to Him with a desire to have your sins forgiven. If you do, then you are right with Him and your journey has started.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (NASB) John 3:16

Your New Journey

Many Christians start this journey and do not follow the road. They do not understand that God actually wants us to continue searching and seeking to know Him better. We can do this only by seeking to discover Him in the Bible. I would encourage you to read “God’s Great Passion.” It will put you on the right road. I would also encourage you to start the study series called, “Solid Roots.” We also encourage you to read “Filled With The Spirit.”

Conclusion:

May the Lord bless you as you search and seek for Him. In Jeremiah 29:1-14, God has promised that if you seek Him with all your heart He will let you find Him. This is a promise. But you must seek God with all your heart.

“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the LORD . . . . Jer. 29:12-14 (NASB)
