Bible Question:

I have heard that God works in numbers. Can you tell me? What does 1 through 10 represent? What do they mean? I do not know what 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, or 10 represent. I believe that 5 represents “favor.” and 6 represents “the number of man,” and 8 represents “new beginnings or fruitfulness.”

Bible Answer:

Unfortunately, the Bible does not tell us if the numbers represent something. Some believe that the number three represents the trinity and the number seven represents completeness. But we are only guessing. Here are several great passages to remember. They come from the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul,

As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. (NASB) 1 Tim. 1:3-4

But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. (NASB) 2 Tim. 2:23

But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. (NASB) Titus 3:9

Conclusion:

May I encourage you to devote your time to a systematic study of the Bible? It is like a rich treasure hunt.
