Bible Question:

I was recently initiated into a fraternity called Beta Theta Phi and a secret society called the Mystical Seven society. They are both college groups. They both profess to be “good organizations” bent on improving character. They even include God and the Bible verses into their ceremonies and meetings. I also noticed that there were many illusions to demons, magic, potions, and spells. I have started studying the Illuminati and occults and I have become very worried that I am involved in something evil. Do you have any thoughts or views into the fraternity systems? I read once that those initiated into the bone and skulls society were no longer saved.

Bible Answer:

The fraternity Beta Theta Phi derives its name from the Greek language. The Masons claim to not be a religion yet they have ties to Christianity as well as many other religions. Your fraternity may claim to be nonreligious, but references to the occult imply something is seriously wrong. It is a trap. It is not something to ignore.

Fraternities

Fraternities can be good and bad. Already you have encountered warning signs from these two organizations. The Holy Spirit has given you a sense that something is wrong. You may want to look up Campus Crusade for Christ, Navigators, or Athletes in Action on your campus and see if there is a Christian fraternity. They may be able to help you with housing as well.

Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” (NASB) 1 Cor. 15:33

A truly Christian fraternity is better than a secular one that pretends to be non-religious.

Secret Societies

I would also encourage you to avoid the Illuminati, the occult, and the Mystical Seven Society. The mystical societies do not provide what their name implies. Satan also offers secrets in the occult as entrapment. He offers power and in return you become enslaved to him. Yes, there is power in the occult, but you are not in control. The occult is evil.

It sounds like you are exploring the occult, secrets, and mysteries. If you are, you need to stop. It is important to remember that the people you spend time with do affect you. God has told us to stay away from these things.

There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD . . . (NASB) Deut. 18:10-12

Conclusion:

They real mystical secrets are found in God’s Word. God is the greatest mystery for us to pursue.

And show you the secrets of wisdom! For sound wisdom has two sides. (NASB) Job 11:6

The best friendship a Christian can have is with another Christian – one of God’s people.
