Bible Question:

Do aborted babies, unborn babies and miscarried babies go to heaven? Do children go to heaven, if they die younger than 12 years?

Bible Answer:

Normally, people must believe in Jesus Christ in order to go to heaven. But what about aborted babies, unborn babies, stillborn babies, miscarried babies and young children under the age of accountability? Do all babies go to heaven? What does the Bible say? That is the question this article is about.

Do Babies Go To Heaven?

Do Babies Go to Heaven?

There is only one passage in the Bible that reveals aborted babies, unborn babies, stillborn babies and miscarried babies go to heaven. That passage occurs in 2 Samuel 12:15-23. In this passage we are told that God struck the newborn baby of King David and Bathsheba because David had murdered Uriah, the husband of Bathsheba (2 Samuel 12:9). He had also committed adultery with Uriah’s wife Bathsheba. Consequently, 2 Samuel 12: 15 says the baby was very sick.

As a result, David started mourning the baby because the prophet had told him the baby would die (2 Samuel 12:14). After the baby died, David stood up from the ground, washed himself and ate some food. Then the servants asked him why he was not mourning the death of the child. David told them that he would see his son in heaven some day in 2 Samuel 12:23.

But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me. 2 Samuel 12:23 (NASB)

This passage indicates that all babies will go to heaven. Aborted babies, unborn babies, stillborn babies and miscarried babies go to heaven. Apparently, they go to heaven because they are not fully accountable for their sins since they 1) are not old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, and 2) will never have a chance to believe or not believe in Jesus. Therefore, what Biblical evidence we have says that all babies go to heaven.

Do Children Go to Heaven?

Do young children automatically go to heaven? The answer is most likely yes, if they do not know the difference between right from wrong. The age at which they understand the difference between right from wrong is called the age of accountability. However, we do not know at what age the age of accountability begins. It may be different for each child. When a child is able to know the difference between right and wrong, he is accountable for his actions before God.
