Bible Question:

What was the last act of the Holy Spirit in Jesus' life?

Bible Answer:

To understand the last act of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ life, we would encourage you to start by reading a previous question and answer titled, “Did Jesus have the Holy Spirit in Him before He was baptized?” That question and answer lists the various ways in which the Holy Spirit ministered through Jesus. For example, Matthew 1:18 reveals that the Holy Spirit caused the birth of Jesus. The Holy Spirit worked through Jesus during His ministry here on earth (Luke 3:22; 4:1, 14, 18; Acts 2:22; 10:38). That is, because Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit He was able to perform His ministry.

Jesus died with the help of the Holy Spirit (Heb. 9:14) and returned to life by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:11; 1 Pet 3:18). But the last act of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ life occurred in Acts 1:2.

The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. (NASB) Acts 1:1-2

Here we are told that the Holy Spirit ministered through Jesus in some way when Jesus gave orders to the apostles. Jesus had ordered them to remain until the Holy Spirit came upon them in a unique way (Acts 1:4-8).

Conclusion:

Since we are also in the flesh and still here on this earth, we also need the Holy Spirit to work in our life – to strengthen us. The Apostle Paul writes,

. . . to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man . . . (NASB) Ephesians 3:16

This occurs when we are filled with the Holy Spirit.
