Jesus Was Crucified Between Two Criminals

Prophecy (700-681 B.C.)

Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,
And He will divide the booty with the strong;
Because He poured out Himself to death,
And was numbered with the transgressors;
Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,
And interceded for the transgressors. Isaiah 53:12 (NASB)

Fulfillment

At that time two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left. Matthew 27:38  (NASB)

They crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left. [ And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with transgressors.”] Mark 15:27-28 (NASB)

Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him. When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. Luke 23:32-33 (NASB)

There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. John 19:18 (NASB)

Comment

This significant prophecy was given in Isaiah 53:12. It said that the Messiah would die between two criminals. The Hebrew word for “transgressors” in Isaiah 53:12 is pasha. The word can be translated as “rebel, rebellion, revolt or transgressor.” All four gospels record that Jesus died between two criminals.
