Bible Question:

As a Christian how do I influence and reach out to my spouse who is still a non-believer? I've been praying for him and wondering if God will work through me to reach out to him.

Bible Answer:

God responds to the prayers of His saints, that is, to those who believe in Him.

Will May Husband Be Saved?

Will your husband eventually want God’s forgiveness of his sins? Only God knows the answer to that question. Wives should keep praying that the Holy Sprit convicts their husbands of their sins and help him to see that he needs God’s forgiveness.

And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 (NASB)

Wives should encourage husbands to watch the movie “The Passion” and ask him what he thought about it. If a wife has not already spoken to him about his need for Jesus, she might want to read the section titled, “Searching for God“, and then ask him to read it. See if he will talk what he read.

The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 (NASB)

What Else Can A Wife Do?

The Holy Spirit also tells us that a wife can help her husband come to the Lord by the way she acts toward him. It is called submission.

In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives . . . (NASB) 1 Peter. 3:1

This is not a promise, but God is telling us that a wife who claims to be a Christian can hinder her husband from coming to the Lord by seeking to be in control in the home. Also, read 1 Corinthians 7:14. It has the same message. A wife who loves her husband and treats him with honor will encourage him to ask, “What has happened to her?” It may draw him to the Lord. That is the point.

Conclusion:

God is gracious. We would encourage you to keep praying.

You do not have because you do not ask.  James 4:2 (NASB)
