Bible Question:

Why is the name of your site NeverThirsty? It seems as though it is the exact opposite of the scripture that is at the beginning of your site.

Bible Answer:

The name for the site and the scripture passage provide a complete picture of a growing relationship with God.

NeverThirsty

The name for this site, NeverThirsty, comes from Jesus’ meeting with the Samaritan woman – a woman who was searching for God. Jesus took time to meet her. At first she did not understand who He was, but later she did. Jesus started the conversation by asking for a drink of water (John 4:9). The conversation developed and finally Jesus said to her . . .

. . . Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life. (NASB) John 4:13-14

He offered her water that would take away her spiritual thirst. At first she did not understand that Jesus’ was using “water” in a symbolic way. She did not realize He was offering her an intimate relationship with God. Scripture does not record every word that Jesus spoke. We do not know if Jesus explained the symbolism of the water. We finally understand what He was saying when in John 7 He says,

Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive . . . (NASB) John 7:37-39

The water He was talking about was the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes into our life and fills our spiritual need for a relationship with God. It is the Holy Spirit Who brings us to Jesus, makes us Christians, helps us talk to God, helps us understand God by the scriptures, seals us, keeps us and fills us.

Jesus’ offer is for a vital, vibrant, dynamic relationship with God. If you are a Christian, are you experiencing that kind of spiritual life? Are you experiencing spiritual “rivers of living water?” But we miss this because of unconfessed sin in our life, lack of time with our Lord, a satisfaction with the things of this world, a minimal prayer life, or the absence of the Spirit’s daily filling (Eph. 5:17-18).

Scripture

The heart cry in Psalm 42 describes the passion of a true Christian who is Spirit filled. This is the heart of one who longs to know His God more and more.

As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God . . . (NASB) Ps. 42:1-2

The marks of a growing Christian are given in 1 John 2:12-14. In this passage the Holy Spirit describes Christians as little children, young men and fathers. It is a picture of a person physically growing up – maturing. Spiritual growth in the Christian life is the same way. We start as baby Christians – those whose sins are forgiven. I remember when I first became a Christian. I felt clean on the inside. My life was exciting, fresh, and meaningful. My relationship with God was real. That is how we start – baby Christians.

A healthy Christian grows spiritually. If a Christian does, the Christian becomes a as young man. He is one in whom the word of God abides. He is overcoming the evil one. This means he knows God’s Word and is having increasing victory over patterns of sin. The spiritual father is mature. He knows the Father. The mark of a spiritual father is one who longs to know more and more about God the Father.

Conclusion:

So the name of the site refers to the life of the Holy Spirit lives in us. And the passage talks about the passion of a spiritually maturing Christian to know more about God. I believe Moses was a spiritual father and he longed to know God more and more.

Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight . . . (NASB) Ex. 33:13

The true Christian is one whose heart “pants for You, O God” and it is the living water – the Holy Spirit – Who satisfies our daily thirst to know God more – leaving us NeverThirsty.
