Bible Question:

If God is absolute and perfect, knows all events that have happened, why was His perfect creation faulty and ate the forbidden fruit sending the world into the state we are in?

Bible Answer:

God gave his perfect creation choice and responsibility. God told Adam,

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die.” (NASB) Genesis 2:16-17

God’s Creation

God made a perfect world, and He gave the perfect man and woman the privilege of choosing. They were created holy, but they had the choice to choose evil. God did not hide anything from them. He told them the facts, explained the consequences, and they chose evil anyway. They did this because of unbelief in their hearts. They did not believe His warning. They doubted His truthfulness and disobeyed.

We can only guess since scripture does not say why God allowed them to choose. It would seem from God’s perspective, there would have been no real relationship if He had controlled our every action. We would just be puppets, and He would always be pulling the strings.

Adam Chose

Imagine what it would be like for us if God controlled everything we did. Some of us would say, “Wow, what a boring life.” Apparently our parents (Adam and Eve) wanted more than the perfect world. They wanted to be like God. That was what Satan promised them (Gen. 3:3). So they chose! It affected all of us. We all became sinners (Rom. 5:19) and were assigned to eternal life in hell. (By the way, the actions of parents do affect their children. This is an example.)

God’s Plan

So immediately God proceeded with the plan that He had put together before He created the world, before He created man – before man sinned (Eph. 1:4). The plan would make man holy again if he would believe God. God’s plan required Him to send Jesus Christ to die for our sins and to return to life to prove that He was holy or divine. He offers us eternal life if we will trust Him to make us holy.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. (NASB) John 3:16

Conclusion:

Usually a man or woman wants to make his/her own choices. Adam and Eve did. The question for each us is, “Do I want to choose God?” If so, He calls us to believe His message about Jesus and trust Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins. If we believe, we will be declared holy in a legal sense and given eternal life in heaven. He has laid out the facts. Now it is our choice.
