Bible Question:

Is it a sin to search in outer space for answers? Should we be trying to look for life on other planets?

Bible Answer:

We are not sure what answers you are looking for. If your question is about the meaning and existence of life, about God, one’s eternal future, and future judgment, then only the Bible has the answer to that question. That is the message of the following passage,

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. (NASB) 2 Tim. 3:16

Otherwise, the answer is, “No!” it is not a sin to search outer space. The Bible does not say anything about searching in outer space, either positively or negatively. In fact, our search of outer space is starting to prove that the theory of the Big Bang is probably wrong. This is a positive step.

Conclusion:

I would recommend the Dismantling the Big Bang by Alex Williams and John Harntnett for a great discussion about some of the recent discoveries.
