Bible Question:

I am a teen Christian. I love God with all my heart. But I am interested in horoscopes, witches, tarot cards, etc. Now I am just interested in it, I don't and will never worship Satan. Is it bad for a Christian to be interested in this stuff; and if so, does God hate me for this?

Bible Answer:

We would encourage you to read the previous question and answer “What is Satanism?” It will help to answer your question. Satanism includes all of these things.

In Isaiah 47 God rebukes the Medo-Persian nation for its oppression of Israel. The people in the nation were consumed with the things of the occult. In this passage God tells them that they are wicked, and then He names many of their sins. Here is the passage.

You felt secure in your wickedness and said, “No one sees me,” Your wisdom and your knowledge, they have deluded you; for you have said in your heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” . . . and disaster will fall on you for which you cannot atone; and destruction about which you do not know will come on you suddenly. Stand fast now in your spells and in your many sorceries with which you have labored from your youth; perhaps you will be able to profit, perhaps you may cause trembling. You are wearied with your many counsels; let now the astrologers, those who prophesy by the stars, those who predict by the new moons, stand up and save you from what will come upon you. Behold, they have become like stubble, fire burns them . . .” (NASB) Isa. 47:10-14

Notice that God includes fortune telling, spells, and sorcery as wickedness. He calls all of this wickedness. Since horoscopes are made by astrologers, horoscopes are wicked. The occult includes such things as horoscopes, witches, fortune telling, and astral projection. Since God condemns them, Christians should have nothing to do with them.
