Bible Question:

I have been born again for five years. Although I have been to several different churches during this time, God has not yet blessed me with a home church. I feel the need to continue to tithe. How do I do this if I am not attending a church currently? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bible Answer:

First, I would not give to a church that I do not feel I could support. There is a spiritual principle that applies here.

Do not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and thus share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin. (NASB) 1 Timothy 5:22

. . . for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds. (NASB) 2 John 11

The principle is clear. We can participate in the sins of others by “giving approval” through the laying on of hands. We can also share in another’s sin by seeking to encourage him. How does the principle apply to giving? When you give, you are enabling a church or any organization to accomplish its task. So, if you are not attending a church because you believe something is wrong with these churches, I would not give to them. If I were you, I would give to some Christian ministry that I knew well and agreed with.

Conclusion:

I would like to encourage you to start attending some church (Heb. 10:24-25). Ask God to show you some church in your area or maybe out of your area that is teaching His Word in truth.
