Bible Question:

I recently started my walk with Christ. I have tried to turn away from every possible sin that has held me captive, but sometimes I commit a sin from my past and feel as if God doesn't love me. I believe He is disappointed in me and does not want to even look at me. It hurts deep inside to the point I almost feel numb. I love Jesus and have cried my eyes out, but I feel this is one too many times. I am not worthy of His forgiveness. What advice could you give me. Please help. I feel as if I have let go of my Savior's hand and I need to grab hold again! Thank you and God Bless!

Bible Answer:

Here are a few simple questions to consider.

Were You Perfect?

Our first question is, “Why did Jesus forgive you when you started believing or trusting in Him – when you started your walk?” Did He forgive you because you were without sin?” The answer is, “No!” You were sinful.

Now our next question is, “Why did He love you then? The answer is shocking, “Because He does!” He loved you before you were a sinner and He still loves you. He knows you better than you know yourself. God knew that you were a sinner before He forgave your sins, and now He not only knows, He understands that you are a forgiven sinner. Here is a great verse to memorize.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (NASB) Eph. 2:4-7

Notice that we were dead in our sins, but now He has “seated us with Him in the heavenly places.” Even though we are still sinners here on earth, God the Father has seated every Christian with Jesus in heaven. That means God the Father sees us only as forgiven sinners. He sees us as saints or holy ones. Have you ever noticed how many times the Apostle Paul calls Christians “saints”? The Greek meaning of that word “saints” is”holy ones.” That is God’s view of Christians from now to eternity.

Worthy?

A forgiven sinner can never be worthy of God’s forgiveness. We do not deserve to be called holy ones. None of us are worthy! The only way we can please God is by faith.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (NASB) Heb 11:6

DId you notice what faith does? It believes He exists and it believes that God rewards those who are actively seeking Him. We will find Jesus if we are seeking Him, and our seeking does not stop there. He wants us to continue to seek Him. He wants a relationship with us. He wants our hearts. Do you love Him? Then seek Him as a friend seeks a friend. He will reward you with a closer and closer relationship.

Conclusion:

God loves you, especially His holy ones! I would encourage you to read the a brief article called, “God’s Great Passion.” You may also be interested in a previous question entitled, “How can I get away from the past and move on with God?”
