Prophetic Genealogy of Jesus Christ

Prophecy – Jesus Christ’s Father Was Only Thought To Be Joseph

Date: 4000 B.C.

And I will put enmity between you [Satan] and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head . . .  Genesis 3:15  (NIV)

Date: 700-681 B.C.

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.  Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)

Fulfillment

Date: 2 B.C.

Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born,  who is called  the Messiah.  Matthew 1:16 (NASB)

When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being,  as was supposed, the son of  Joseph,  the son of  Eli . . . Luke 3:23 (NASB)

Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” Matthew 1;22-23  (NASB)

The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason  the  holy Child shall be called the Son of God.” Luke 1:35 (NASB)

Comment

The prophecy in Genesis 3:15 reveals that the coming Messiah would be born of Eve’s seed. Normally, the seed referred to male sperm but in this surprising prophecy the woman is referred to as having the seed. Later the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14 tells us that a virgin woman would give birth to a son. This is consistent with Genesis 3:15.

The child would come from Mary without sexual relations from a man. Matthew 1:23 tells us that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Christ. Both prophecies were fulfilled when Jesus Christ was born. Luke 1:35 explains that Jesus became a human male when Mary was supernaturally pregnant by God the Holy Spirit. When Matthew 1:16 says that Jesus was born by Mary and Luke 3:23 says that Joseph was supposedly the father of Jesus, the ancient prophecies were officially fulfilled.
