Fulfillment

Date: 2 B.C.

He [Jesus] was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, . . . the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David . . . Luke 3:23, 31 (NIV)

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David . . .”  Luke 1:26, 30-32

Comment

The prophecy in Isaiah 11:1 indicates that the Branch, a righteous king, would be the descendant of King David. The physician Luke tells us that Jesus the Christ – the Messiah – is that descendant of King David. Jesus Christ’s ancestor is David.
