Prophecy (700-681 B.C.)
Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Isaiah 35:5-6 (NIV)
Fulfillment
. . . a great number of people . . . had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. Luke 6:17-19 (NIV)
Comment
This is another important picture of the Messiah that is given by Isaiah but was not understood by the Jews. They were so eagerly looking forward to a military Messiah that they missed the message of the prophecy of Isaiah 35:5-6. It prophesied that one heal the blind, lame, deaf and mute would come. Luke 6:17-19 reveals that Jesus healed the blind, lame, deaf and mute.
