God With Us

Prophecy (700-681 B.C.)

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel”  Isaiah 7:14 (NASB)

“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. ”  Isaiah 9:6 (NASB)

Fulfillment

Before Jesus was born we are told, “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.” Matthew 1:23 (NASB)

Comment

The first prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 was fulfilled when Jesus Christ was born. Luke 1:35 tells us the Holy Spirit came upon Mary and Matthew 1:23-25 reveals that she was a virgin who gave birth to a son named Jesus.  His name was Immanuel also, which means “God with us.” This reveals that Jesus was and is God.

The second prophecy in Isaiah 9:6 says that this son would be our Mighty God, the Eternal Father and the Prince of Peace. This is the Messiah, who is Jesus Christ.
