Bottomless Pit.
We are also told that Satan will be given a key to a place
called “The Bottomless Pit,” and he will open it.
When he opens it, he will release hordes of demons - his followers.
Revelation
12:2-4 says that one-third of the angels in heaven joined Satan
when he rebelled against God. As a result, they were denied
access to heaven and were forced to live on the earth too!
Some of these evil angels, or demons, sinned (Gen. 6:1-4) and
were imprisoned in the bottomless pit (1 Pet. 3:18-20; 2 Pet.
2:4-6; and Jude 6-7).
On
one occasion when Jesus was removing some evil spirits called “Legion” from
a man, the demons pleaded with Him to not send them into the
abyss or the bottomless pit (Luke 8:31). They did not want
to go there. 1 Peter 3:19 calls it a prison. The bottomless
pit is a real place with real demons. When Satan uses the key
to open the bottomless pit, these unusually wicked demons will
escape. They are described as locusts in the next verse.

And he opened the bottomless pit; and smoke went up out
of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and
the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the
pit. And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the
earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of
the earth have power. (NASB) Rev. 9:2-3

Freed Spirits.
These demons will have supernatural powers to cause great pain
for men and women for five months but not to kill them. They
will not be allowed to hurt or harm anyone who has the mark
of God on his or her forehead.

And they were told that they should not hurt the grass
of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but
only the men who do not have the seal of God on their
foreheads. And they were not permitted to kill anyone,
but to torment for five months; and their torment was
like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a man.
And in those days men will seek death and will not
find it; and they will long to die and death flees
from them. (NASB) Rev. 9:4-6
