Daniel
11:5 says the king of the south will grow strong, along
with one of his princes. The prince is Seleucus. He joined
Ptolemy and together they grew strong. Eventually, there was
an initial battle in the Gaza region and Antigonus the One-eyed
lost the battle. Consequently,
Seleucus captured Babylonia and then Media, Susiana, and into
the Indus region. Seleucus and Antigonus continued fighting
until 308 B.C. Seleucus continued to expand his empire until
it included Asia Minor. In short, he became a king over a very
large empire. What does scripture
say happened between Ptolemy I Soter and Seleucus I Nicator?
Daniel 11:5 says that Seleucus gained ascendancy over
him and that is exactly what was predicted. Seleucus was
more powerful and his empire was larger than that of Ptolemy
I Soter. What type of evil
did we see here? We saw lust for power and control over people.
Seleucus desire included more than just land. He wanted
control over people. He wanted power. This is an evil we see
in our world between nations, among politicians, in our churches,
between leaders, among employees, and in families. |
