The
rest of the Medo-Persian kings are ignored. We will see later
that scripture will describe each of the kings of Greece and
then stop at Antiochus IV Epiphanes. All of the other kings
are not important to this prophecy. Xerxes was important because
he motivated Greece to come after the Medo-Persian empire. They
were a threat. Prophecy About
Greece.
It was Alexander the Great who came after Medo-Persia and defeated
it. In our study of Daniel 8, we saw that the kingdom was divided
among four generals after Alexander died. That is the message
of the next two verses.

And
a mighty king will arise, and he will rule with great
authority and do as he pleases. But as soon as he has
arisen, his kingdom will be broken up and parceled out
toward the four points of the compass, though not to his
own descendants, nor according to his authority which
he wielded; for his sovereignty will be uprooted and given
to others besides them. (NASB) Dan. 11:3-4 |
These generals did not have the power and the skill of Alexander,
but they divided the empire into four parts and began to rule
as kings. These two verses are a brief summary of Daniel 8.
The
events that now follow in Daniel 11 provide us with information
which has not been previously given. The information is detailed
but very exciting prophecy because it is so accurate. Are you
ready? Here we go!
Ptolemies
and Seleucids.
Daniel
11 now focuses on two generals, Ptolemy I Soter and Seleucus
I Nicator, and the kings who will come after them. These two
new empires will wage war against one another for the next 200
years or more. |
