Yet
a very common view among some amillennialists is that the 69 weeks
are literal up to the time of Jesus Christ, but only symbolic after
that. But this is not consistent. Since the 69 weeks were literal,
we should accept the fact the last week is literal too!
The Surprise.
The last week is a seven year period that has not yet occurred. It
is coming in the future. If you please, we are living in the white
spaces between verses 26 and 27 of Daniel 9.
It is common for scripture to jump in
time within a verse and between verses, especially in prophecy. There
are jumps in time in many of the genealogies. There are gaps in time
in the life of Jesus. In Daniel 7:15-17 there is a jump in time after
the four beasts which represent the kingdoms of Babylon, Medo-Persia,
Greece, and Rome to the eternal kingdom (see the chart below). Daniel
7:15-17 completely skipped the details given later in verses 19-26.
When we arrive at Daniel 11, we will discover that there are two major
jumps in time in two different parts of the prophecy. In short, everything
is not recorded in scripture and that is what we have here. We have
a jump in time between verses 26 and 27. The last week is delayed.
Is this a surprise? Now you might ask,
How do we know that there is a jump in time between Daniel 9:26
and Daniel 9:27? The answer is coming. So hang on to your hats,
here we go!
Kingdom Experiences!
When John the Baptist and Jesus started their ministries, they had
the same message.

John
the Baptist came, preaching . . .Repent, for the kingdom
of heaven is near. (NIV) Matt. 3:1-2
. . . Jesus began to preach, Repent, for the kingdom of
heaven is near. (NIV) Matt. 4:17
