But
Laban said, It is not the practice in our place, to marry
off the younger before the first-born. Complete the week of
this one, and we will give you the other also for the service
which you shall serve with me for another seven years. And Jacob
did so and completed her week, and he gave him his daughter
Rachel as his wife. (NASB) Genesis 29:26-28

Her
week means seven years. What did we discover? We discovered
that there will be 483 years from the decree to restore and rebuild
Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince.
Messiah Cut
off. At the end of the 483 years, the prophecy goes on
to say that the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing. He will
die! The Hebrew is again very helpful. The Hebrew word for cut
off is the same one used to refer to cutting a tree. The Hebrew
for nothing is simply not. This means that
Messiah will die 483 years after the decree to restore and rebuild
Jerusalem. That means He will be alive before that.
Serious About
Scripture. Now it is time to count 483 years from the decree
to death of the Messiah. Hang on! This is going to be detailed, but
it will be wonderful when we are finished.
Now, we must first convert these 483
biblical years into our present twentieth century calendar which has
365.2421896698 days per year. Our calendar is called the Gregorian calendar.
It has leap years every four years, except on years ending in 00.
This takes care of the remaining part of a day which is left over
each year.
What is a biblical year? A biblical
year is made up of 360 days, and each biblical month has 30 days (compare
Genesis 7:11, 24 with Genesis 8:4 and observing Revelation 11:2-3). Now
we must ask how many Gregorian years are equal to 483 biblical years?
The answer is 476 years and 25 days.
