Prophecy

Date: 2066 B.C.

Then God said, 'Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants [seed] after him (NIV). Genesis 17:19

Fulfillment

Date: 2 B.C.

He [Jesus] was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, . . . the son of Judah, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham . . . (NIV) " Luke 3:23, 34

Abraham was the father of Isaac . . . the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus (NIV)." Matt. 1:2, 16

Comment

Abraham had two sons: Ishmael (Gen. 16:1) and Isaac (Gen. 17:19). This prophecy states that God will only establish His everlasting covenant through Isaac. Jesus Christ was a descendant of Isaac and the fulfillment of that covenant according to Gal. 3:16.
