Bible Question: Does
the verse in Jeremiah 29:13 apply only to Israel?
| |
Then
you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will
listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search
for Me with all your heart. (NASB) Jer. 29:12-13 |
Bible Answer: God
spoke the words in Jeremiah 29:12-13 to Israel through the prophet
Jeremiah. They are wonderful words, and the words also apply to us.
The concept of seeking and searching for God is found in the Psalms.
The following quotes come from King David, who already believed in
God when he wrote these words.

And
those who know Your name will put their trust in You, for
You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. (NASB)
Ps. 9:10
This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your
face—even Jacob. Selah. (NASB) Ps. 24:6
When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to
You,“Your face, O LORD, I shall seek.” (NASB) Ps.
27:8
O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul
thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, in a dry and weary
land where there is no water. (NASB) Ps. 63:1 |
Moses pled with God in Exodus 33:12-13 to know
Him more, and Paul longed to more about God. Both Moses and Paul were seeking
after God.
| |
Now
therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight,
let me know Your ways that I may know You, (NASB) Ex. 33:13
More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the
surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom
I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but
rubbish so that I may gain Christ . . . (NASB) Phil. 3:8 |
They
were not looking for salvation but for more of God.
Conclusion: Jeremiah 29:12-14 are
wonderful verses. God wants
us to seek
Him, to know Him,
and to love
Him. Matt. 11:25 hints
at the fact
that God hides
Himself from
us. Isaiah 45:15
also hints that
God hides Himself.
Why? Because
He wants us
to seek Him
as a man seeks
for gold. God
wants us to
seek a relationship
with Him. Do
you want one
with Him? I
would encourage
you to read, "God's
Great Passion."
