Bible
Question:It is widely recognized that Genesis 1 and 2 offer
two distinctive views of creation. Why?
Bible Answer: Genesis 1 is an overview of the
creation of our world and the surrounding universe by God, while Genesis
2:4-25 gives us some detailed information about the creation of Adam
and Eve. The chart below illustrates the focus of Genesis 1-2.
Shrubs of The Field. The phrases "shrub
of the field" and "plant of the field" in Genesis
2:5 refer to cultivated plants.
Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and
no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not sent
rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground. But
a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the
ground. (NASB) Gen. 2:5-6
That is the sense of the Hebrew language. Therefore, the passage is
telling us that no seedlings or sprigs had been planted and cultivated
yet. Apparently, the plant life was growing wild and God caused it to
be watered with a mist.
Adam and Eve. The rest of Genesis 2 describes
the creation of Adam and the Garden of Eden.
Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living
being. The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there
He placed the man whom He had formed. (NASB) Gen. 2:7-8
God then proceeds to tell Adam to cultivate the land. Adam also named
the animals of the world, and finally we are told about the creation
of Eve.
Conclusion:God's description of the creation
of the world is sufficiently detailed and specific to help us understand
that God created the world. God has made the point that He created humans.
We are not the product of evolution; that is the message of 1 Cor. 15:39.
All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh
of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and
another of fish. (NASB) 1 Cor. 15:39
God made us unique. Men and women were created in the image of God. We
were made to have a relationship with God. He loves you, and He seeks
a relationship
with you!
