Bible Question: I
am getting confused about this name Zion. I want to know if this
is the mountain where Jesus was crucified or not.
Bible Answer: Jesus
was crucified on a hill called Golgotha, according to the gospels.

And
when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means Place
of a Skull . . . (NASB) Matt. 27:33
Then they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated,
Place of a Skull. (NASB) Mark 15:22
When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified
Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the
left. (NASB) Luke 23:33
They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own
cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called
in Hebrew, Golgotha. (NASB) John 19:17 |
Golgotha
is the Hebrew word which means "skull." The Greek name
is KRANION which means "Calvary." In a photograph of the
hill of Golgotha, one can see a skull on the left side.
Mount
Zion was the largest hill on which the city of Jerusalem was built.
It was on the south side of the city, above the Valley of Hinnom.
It was the first spot on which buildings of the city of Jerusalem
were built. You can read more about Mount Zion and see a picture
of it at the study entitled, "He
Is Faithful."
Conclusion: Jesus
died on an old rugged cross on a hill called "The Skull." He
died there for you and me. He died so that our sins can be forgiven,
so that we could be at peace with God, and some day live with God
forever. Does God love us or what? He
asks us to believe in Jesus Christ. Now, that is very simple!
