Bible Question:
What is a good book in the Bible to read? I started with the
gospels and then went to the Psalms, Job, and Proverbs. Now
I am reading Genesis. What do you suggest? I have this thirst
for knowledge and I just do not know how to go about getting
it filled.
Bible Answer:
Here at NeverThirsty we have offered an unusual way to read
the Bible in one year. We call
it Logos Reading
. Each day a different passage of the Bible is recommended
for your reading. By reading each of the passages you will
read through the Bible in the order in which it was written.
This has some great benefits. First, you can see the unfolding
drama of divine truth as God gave it to us. Second,
the first book in the Old Testament that you will read is Job.
It is the oldest. Next you will read the first five books of
the Old Testament. These books were written by Moses. Then
comes Psalms. This book spans about 1,000 years. When you reach
1 and 2 Samuel, you will start reading books from the minor
prophets and then the major prophets. Why? Because some of
the minor prophets lived during the time of Samuel, King Saul,
and King David. Third, when
you read the New Testament passages, you will be reading them
in the order in which they were written and in the order the
early Christians read them. The gospels were not written at
the same time, but were spread out over a period of about fifty
years. As you read, try to imagine how Christians in the early
church must have reacted with each new letter they read.
Conclusion:
I would encourage you to read along
with us and read the Bible in the order in which it was written.
As you read, remember that you are looking to see more of God.
The goal of Bible reading should not be to "read through
the Bible in one year" but to see God and grow in your
intimacy with God.
