Bible Question:Will people have gender in heaven? Bible Answer:The Bible does not tell us very much about what we will be like in heaven. A previous question and answer entitled, "What does the Bible say a spiritual body will be like in heaven?" did give a partial answer. We know that our body will be like Jesus' body. Gender. If Jesus' disciples were able to recognize Him after His death,
this implies that our bodies will at least look like males
if we are males in this life or like females if we are females
in this life.
Sex In Heaven? But will we be males and females physically? The following
passage implies that there is no sex in heaven.
In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her. But Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. (NASB) Matt. 22:28-30 There is no sex in heaven since men and women are not given
in marriage. God's pattern for sexual relations between a
man and a woman is marriage. So if there is not marriage
in heaven, there will not be any sexual relationships. It
appears however, that we will look like our old selves in
some ways.
Conclusion:Scripture also tells us that the disciples saw Moses and Elijah when Jesus was transfigured (Matt. 17:1-4). This again implies that they looked like males. There will be gender in heaven but not for the purpose of creating families or for enjoyment. Our enjoyment in heaven will come from other sources. |
