Bible Question:  Revelation 2:7 and Revelation 3:5 both use the phrase "he who overcomes." Our Bible study group is searching for answers to the "once saved always saved" belief. The Greek word is NIKAO which means "to overpower," "to overcome," or "to be victorious."       Passages. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.’   Rev. 2:11 . . . He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.’   Rev. 2:17 . . . Real Christians will remain, and those who leave were never real Christians.       Meaning of "Overcome." How do we know that "who overcomes" refers to Christians? The definition is given in 1 John.     For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith. And who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (NASB) 1 John 5:4-5   True Christians will be victorious, not in the sense of a war but in terms of eternal life.   Conclusion:  There is a special study related to your discussion entitled "Saved Only Once" that you may want to read. It is the Christian who overcomes, not the "overcomer" who becomes a Christian. The forgiveness of our sins does not depend on our performance.
