Bible Question:
Can we make a cross? Some people say that we should not make
a cross, but I believe it is a good way to remember Jesus.
Bible Answer:
There is nothing wrong with making a cross and using it as
a reminder of Jesus' death and return to life.
Early Church.
The early church used the cross this way. Here is an inscription
of a cross in stone that dates from the early Christians.
The symbol for "Alpha" is on the left side of
the "X" cross and "Omega" is on the right
side.
Revelation 1:8 says that Jesus is the alpha and omega. He is
the beginning and the end. The cross has been used by many
Christians as a reminder of Jesus' sacrifice and return to
life.
Cross Worship.
It would be wrong to have a cross if you worshipped it or thought
that it had some special magical power
or gave you a special benefit of some kind such as "protection,"
"blessing," or "favor." If a person honors the cross in some
special way, then it becomes an idol and this would not please the Lord Jesus.
Conclusion:
A cross is just a symbol of Jesus' death and return to life.
Some crosses depict Jesus hanging on them. This should not
occur, since Jesus is no longer on the cross. He returned
to life and is now in heaven. If you have a cross, do not
worship it.
