Scripture
(NASB) |
Meaning |
Who
Teach This? |
|
| |
By
this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses
that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every
spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; and this
is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that
it is coming, and now it is already in the world. 1 John 4:2-3 |
False
teachers are those who teach that the man Jesus Christ was not
God. |
Mormons
and Jehovah's Witness are false teachers because they teach
that Jesus was not God. |
|
| |
But
avoid . . . men who have gone astray from the truth saying that
the resurrection has already taken place, and thus they upset
the faith of some. 2 Timothy 2:16-18 |
False
teachers are those who teach error about the prophetic future. |
This
one is difficult because scripture is not always clear about
the future. |
|
| |
But
the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall
away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and
doctrines of demons . . . men who forbid marriage and advocate
abstaining from foods, which God has created to be gratefully
shared in by those who believe and know the truth. 1 Timothy
4:1-3 |
False
teachers are those who teach celibacy and keeping the Old Testament
laws regarding food. |
The
Roman Catholic Church teaches celibacy and abstaining on certain
days. The Seventh Day Adventists teach Old Testament food laws. |
|
| |
But
even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you
a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let
him be accursed. Galatians 1:8 |
False
teachers are those who teach that a person is saved from his/her
sins by doing good deeds and keeping rules. |
A
number of groups teach this error: 1) those who say we must
be baptized in order to be Christians, and 2) those who say
that one can lose salvation if one does not continue in good
works. |
