Bible Question: Can
God create a rock He cannot lift?
Bible Answer: The
question assumes that God's power has limits. The answer to the question
lies in the character of God. The question assumes that God is finite
and not infinite. It assumes a rock can be made big enough that God
cannot move it with a command of His voice. The question ignores
the fact that God does not have any limits to His power.

And
looking upon them Jesus said to them, "With men this
is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (NASB)
Matthew 19:26
Ah
Lord GOD! Behold, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth
by Thy great power and by Thine outstretched arm! Nothing is
too difficult for Thee . . . (NASB) Jeremiah 32:17
For
nothing will be impossible with God. (NASB) Luke 1:37 |
God, being an infinite God, has no limitations and mere mortals cannot
completely understand nor explain the idea of unlimited power. Human
beings often find themselves in a situation where they cannot lift
something or accomplish some task. We are finite beings living with
limitations. God is infinite and without limitations. No, God cannot
make a rock too big to lift. God can make a rock too big for us to
lift! No matter how big He makes the rock, He can always move it!
The question is meaningless when applied to God because an infinite
God can infinitely move any infinitely big rock He makes.
Conclusion: God
is in control of our world and the events that happen around us.
Sometimes in my own life I find that I worry about things to come
and situations I am in.

Thus
says the LORD of hosts, 'If it is too difficult in the sight
of the remnant of this people . . . will it also be too difficult
in My sight?' declares the LORD of hosts. (NASB) Zechariah

But God has no such limitations. He calls us to trust in Him with
all our heart.

Trust
in the LORD with all your heart, And do not lean on your
own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And
He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your
own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. It will
be healing to your body, And refreshment to your bones. (NASB)
