Bible Question: I am looking for a verse from the Bible which reads, "Seek the
truth and ye shall find." This may not be an exact quotation.
I am wondering if you can help?
Bible Answer: There are several verses in the Bible that come close to this
wording. There may be others. The following are a few key ones.
Passage #1:
| |
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with
all your heart. (NASB) Jeremiah 29:13 |
This verse is primarily for the nation of Israel but the principle
is true for everyone (Prov. 8:17; Ex. 33:13).
Passage #2:
| |
Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock,
and it shall be opened to you. (NASB) Matt. 7:7 |
This passage has three key words: ask, seek, and knock. The message
is clear, repeated and emphasized. We need to come to God in prayer
and ask. God also says we do not have because we do not ask.
Passage #3:
| |
Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him,
"If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
(NASB) John 8:31-32 |
The last passage is very familiar. The word for abide has the
idea of remaining, staying or lingering. If we are seeking truth
we will need to abide and meditate on His word. The truth does
make us free - free from sin in Jesus Christ - free from darkness
- freedom in light or truth.
Conclusion: Numerous passages exist in the Bible which refer to seeking, finding
and truth. Three significant passages have been presented here
that speak to seeking and finding God. One passage says that if
we abide in His truth we will find freedom. |
