Bible Question: If God is love, how can he send anyone to hell?

Bible Answer: The question assumes God has a choice! God tells us that he does want any to perish,

The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. (NASB) 2 Peter 3:9

The choice of heaven or hell is the responsibility of each individual person. God has told us how to escape hell,

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. (NASB) John 3:16

This is a choice each person must make. Eternal life which comes by believing in or trusting Jesus to forgive our sins. If we do not believe then we are going to hell,

He who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (NASB) John 3:18

We are in this condition because Adam sinned (Gen. 3 and Rom 5:12-14) and as a result the entire human race is a race of sinners (Rom. 5:17-20). Sinful man cannot live with a holy God (Ps. 5:4). Or put another way, a holy God cannot live with wicked men and women. So we need our sins forgiven. Someone may say that is not fair. Well, God has gone to all the trouble for us. He has made it easy to go to heaven. We do not need to do anything - no good deeds - no good anything. All we need to do is believe in, trust or depend on Jesus to forgive us of sins. No one needs to go hell.

Conclusion: God has made it easy to go to heaven. Just believe that Jesus, the only name by which men may have their sins forgiven, will and can do that for you if you want Him to!
