Bible Question:

Why in Revelation 22:2-3 are the trees by the river of life for the healing of the nations, if there is no curse? Illness would be a prerequisite to healing, and illness is of the curse.

Bible Answer:

Revelation 22:2-3 tells us that there is a tree of life in heaven.

Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; (NASB) Rev. 22:1-3

The tree of life will exist in heaven forever. It is there so that every Christian can eat its fruit. I wonder what the twelve different flavors taste like? It should be fun to learn. But the answer to your question is hidden in the meaning of the Greek word which is translated here as “healing.” The transliterated form of the Greek word is THEPAPEIA. It actually has a wide range of meanings such as “attendance, healing, cure, family household, and to render service.” The translation of “healing” in many of our Bibles should have the sense of life giving service, or “life-giving.” With this explanation, we now understand that the leaves of the Tree of Life “give life.” The Tree of Life is not healing in the sense of the nations needing to be healed of illness. The Tree of Life will give life!

Conclusion:

Heaven will be great. We will not only be with God forever, but we will finally be able to really know our God. We will also be able to eat and drink with Jesus. Just imagine all of the people we will get to know and the things we can touch and explore such as the Tree of Life.
