Bible Question:

If Adam and Eve were already created, why did God say that it was not good for Adam to be alone? Why did God say that He had to create a helper for him?

Bible Answer:

God created Adam first and Eve was created later in the day. Genesis 2:7 tells us that Adam was created from the dust of the ground and Genesis 2:18 reveals that Adam was created first. This occurred on the sixth day of creation. Here are the passages,

Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. (NASB) Gen. 2:7

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” (NASB) Gen. 2:18

Then later in Genesis 2:18, we are told that God decided to create Eve.

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” (NASB) Gen. 2:18

Then in Genesis 2:21-23 we are told how God created Eve. She was created from Adam’s flesh. This demonstrated to Adam that she was just like him, except that Eve was a female. Adam was a male and Eve was a female. That was God’s plan from the beginning.

So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” (NASB) Gen. 2:21-23

Conclusion:

Eve was created after Adam and after God said that it was not good for Adam to be alone. Eve was Adam’s helper. God invented marriage so that man would not be alone. That is the purpose of marriage. They were supposed to live together in harmony and bliss, but they sinned by disobeying God. When they disobeyed, God called their disobedience sin and announced that they would die spiritually. But God promised to provide a means of escape. The way to escape spiritual death is by believing in Jesus Christ.
